Cabot Corporation Sr Process Engineer in Billerica, Massachusetts

Lead and contribute to process and product development projects in Cabot’s Purification Solutions business in accordance with Stage Gate. Current focus areas include process development & scale-up of new products based on extrusion and steam activation. Responsible for defining process technology and bringing new product & process concepts from the lab/pilot scale to commercial supply. An experienced engineer who can bring together fundamentals and practical scale-up knowledge to help create value through process, product & applications innovation.

  • Participates in diverse areas of research and development to contribute innovations, new designs, or new techniques to advance activated carbon process, product & application technology.

  • Interprets the principles, theories and concepts of activated carbon synthesis and application.

  • Leads small projects including staff, scheduling, and resources

  • Adheres to and supports the implementation and improvement of all safety, health and environmental guidelines

  • Works to ensure that all intellectual property standards are followed

  • Initiates and maintains contacts with key internal and external technical resources

  • Ensures proper documentation of research activities.

  • Supports efforts to implement and maintain the Responsible Care® Management System in line with the requirements of the RC14001® technical specification.

  • Experience with manufacturing, transitioning new products to manufacturing, and/or toll manufacturing of products.

  • Broad knowledge of chemical process development and unit operations, materials science, and particle technology.

  • Highly developed research and analysis techniques. Ability to apply statistical analysis to make sound conclusions. Well-developed technical report writing and presentation skills.

  • Ability to formulate and present ideas in a convincing and persuasive manner to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Knowledge of process safety (hazard assessment, etc.) and capable to ensure safe operation internally and externally

  • Ability to lead and work effectively in teams

  • Knowledge of patent/intellectual property

  • Advanced degree (Masters or Ph.D.) in Chemical Engineering with 3-4+ years relevant industrial experience, or Bachelor’s degree with 5-10+ years relevant industrial experience, ideally with experience in process development, scale-up and manufacturing
