TRC Companies Electrical Designer (Utility Power) in Manchester, New Hampshire

Primary Function As a member of TRC's Power Delivery Engineering project team, the Electrical Designer performs complex design assignments, which require knowledge and skill in HV Utility Design techniques and procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions:

  • Produce new drawings from examples of previous projects and/or standards
  • Oversee project-specific activities of drafters and designers
  • Research information in catalogues, specifications, corporate standards, or other reference material
  • Calculate cable lengths, conduit fill, or other basic tasks
  • Calculate ground grid requirements to IEEE standards using task-specific software (Electrical Designers)
  • Calculate structure heights and weights, concrete volumes, equipment fit-up, or other basic tasks
  • Develop design documents, drawings, and bills of materials
  • Learn and use task-specific software
  • Learn and properly use the document management system
  • Learn and apply corporate standard engineering practices
  • Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of his/her work
  • Bring potential project-related problems and possible solutions to the attention of the responsible party
  • Travel out of town for short periods of time as required by projects and assignments
  • Other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications/Experience Associates Degree in Design OR Technology Field

A minimum of three years experience in electrical design, or related experience, is required.

Successful candidates must possess skills in the following areas:

  • Basic knowledge of the major components of substations and the types of drawings required to construct an electrical substation
  • Basic knowledge of AC/DC fundamentals
  • Basic knowledge electrical codes and standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE and ANSI)
  • Basic knowledge of control circuits and ground grid theory & design
  • Extensive knowledge of CADD programs such as AutoCAD
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft office products including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Mathematics, including algebra and basic trigonometry
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills to effectively convey information to team members, management and clients when necessary
  • Demonstrated ability to working in a team environment
