Job Description

BAE is seeking a junior electrical engineer specializing in RF/Microwave product knowledge to join a microwave hardware design group where the candidate will provide some week-end support to manufacturing. The week-end shifts could be 6am to 3pm or 3pm to 12am or have some flexibility. There is a differential pay offered for the time spent on week-end support. The hardware design group specializes in RF Front Ends and Converter technology for wideband multi-octave microwave technology products. The products are mostly chip and wire hermetic package sub-modules with some circuit card products and integrated into a higher level of assembly. The product portfolio may include LNA front ends, receivers, switch matrices, clock/LO modules, and RF converters. The candidate will work at first a higher percentage of their time on week-day 1st shift to learn the products from the design group so that knowledge can be applied on supporting the factory on at least one or more days on the week-end. The candidate will also need to be skilled at contributing to the design group on potential future design activities.

Production support activity includes having a strong background in electronic manufacturing of RF/microwave products. Having knowledge of electronic test and manufacturing process. Having the ability to assist and guide technicians to identify hardware failure mechanisms by troubleshoot and resolve test or hardware issues. The ability to identify faults and provide solutions. Review and analyze data to determine fault trends. Understand how circuit device and layout drives RF/microwave performance. Ability to fault isolate measurements related to gain, noise figure, compression, intercepts, spurious, and noise. Work in a production environment with other disciplines including assembly, test, product engineers, process engineers, QA personnel. Determine root cause and corrective action. Identify design shortfalls back to the design team. Contribute to increasing yield and throughput in the factory. Future work in the design group may include support to senior engineers in the hardware design process from concept to detailed design of microwave products from contributing to performing trade studies, performance analysis, simulations, compliance and yield predictions. The individual must be a self-starter with strong oral and written communication skills, capable to work independently or on a team.

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 2 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

  • Secret security clearance is required

  • Background in EM, analog, RF/Microwave electrical design

  • Testing experience with Analog, RF, Microwave, and/or digital circuits

  • Familiarity with lab equipment: Network Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers, Noise Figure Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, signal generators, etc.

  • Familiar with manufacturing environment

  • Ability to troubleshoot CCA and chip and wire based RF/microwave hardware

  • Tool experience with Agilent (Keysight) ADS, AWR Microwave Office, MATLAB, SPICE

  • Strong written and oral communication skills (including Microsoft Office)

  • Course work or related experience in microwave / RF design required. Chip-level electronics.
